In Memory of…

Eileen Mathys of Castorland passed away at home surrounded by her family.

She arrived earlier than expected on the morning of December 27th, 1974 in Potsdam, NY. She spent most of her life in NNY with some brief years living in Michigan and Arizona. She was not one to travel, but visited the world through her books as she was a lifelong reader. Mrs Mathys was a graduate of Watertown High School and later JCC.

Eileen enjoyed spending her free time cooking, baking, and crafting. She was often seen running the roads with her husband who was her constant partner, that she dubbed her coach. Eileen was rarely seen without a book in her hand. She found her dream job late in life and served as the Croghan Librarian for several years.

Eileen is survived by her husband Scott, whom she dubs the love of her life, daughter Olivia and bonus daughters Paige and Jessica. Her siblings Justin, Josh, Nate and Elizabeth. She is predeceased by her parents, her in-law, her favorite aunt and uncle and her beloved cat Steve.

At her request, there will be no funeral or calling hours. Iseneker Funeral Home will see to her wishes. As she gave in life, she has given in death and all usable organs have been donated to those in need. A celebration of life luncheon will be held at the Croghan Fire Hall. Please bring a story or memory to share with her family. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Croghan Free Library.

Eileen, I very much enjoyed reading this. Very well written and love how it makes the reader think about the fleeting nature of life as well as the unique beauty of each life and how it is lived. Truly thought-provoking!
